Welcome to the Christchurch Polo Club and
South Island Polo Association web site…
This is not the official SIPA website, as it does not exist, however -
it is a fairly accurate record of what is happening in our little polo world!
Christchurch Polo Club is the premier polo club in the South Island. It is situated behind the former Wigram Airbase and next to the new A&P Showgrounds. The club is sign posted out the front – so come on in and head down to the halfway mark to get the best seat in the house. Our physical address is: Wigram Road (opp Hayton Road)
On a clear day, the view at the grounds is breathtaking – the Port Hills to the east are a stones throw away and the Southern Alps to the west glow in the background. As the club has only moved to the grounds in recent years, the surrounding tress are young and shelter is sparse… bring your jacket to ward off the stiff easterly breeze! The grounds have water facilities for the horses and portaloos for the humans… nothing too flashy, it’s all about the polo afterall.
We can scrub up well for a big ‘do though. There is plenty of room for a marquee or two, ample space for parking around the grounds and have a boot picnic… or two. We can set up speakers so everyone can follow the commentary on the game – and the new scoreboard is visible from, well, a long way! Pop up some grandstands, get the gourmet nibbles and drinks in and you have yourself a cracking day out for the fans.
